The Christian martyr Sebastian (c. 255-288 AD) was tortured by being shot with many arrows, but miraculously survived, and was nursed by St. Irene of Rome. He was later martyred by being beaten to death. The parish church of Öttingen, built in 1467, is dedicated to the saint.
