This coinage commemorates the victory of the moneyer's ancestor Lucius Aemilius Paullus Macedonicus, against Perseus, King of Macedon, in 166 BC. Perseus' kingdom was abolished, and he spent the rest of his life as a captive in Alba Fucens, in modern day Abruzzo.
