Roman Imperial, Aurelian, BI antoninianus, Siscia mint c. 272-4 AD, Emperor & Concordia, officinal mark Q*. 4.48 g.
Occasionally one sees coins such as this of Siscia struck under Aurelian, where the obverse portrait of the emperor depicts him with absurdly large shoulders and chest. It is unclear why such stylised depictions exist other than that given the great variety of portraits in this reign, it is clear that the engravers had a fair amount of freedom in how they produced these official images.
EF or better, much original silvering, lustrous, a few very small areas of roughness, irregular flan. Rare portrait style.
