British, Scotland, Mary Queen of Scots, silver testoon "1561", struck fantasy by Edward Emery (1802-1851), manufactured in the 1840s, with dies perhaps by W.J. Taylor.
Emery's pieces are notorious, and fooled some Victorian collectors, although the style is so far removed from the originals in most cases that it is difficult to understand how. Nevertheless the dies were prepared with great skill.
EF, toned, practically as made. Very rare and a beautiful fantasy piece.
