British hammered, Normandy, William I "the Conqueror" or posthumous, silver denier c. 1080-1135 AD

William I was Duke of Normany before his accession to the English throne, and the possesion stayed within the dynasty. Coins were struck anonymously during William's reign and those of his sucessors, Robert II Courteheuse and Henry I Beauclerc (Henry I of England). They circulated widely and examples have been found in Britain and Ireland as well as modern-day France and other parts of continental Europe. 

Fine or better, very weak strike. Very rare and with an interesting provenance.
