William I was Duke of Normany before his accession to the English throne, and the possesion stayed within the dynasty. Coins were struck anonymously during William's reign and those of his sucessors. This PAX issue is considered by Legros to have been struck between 1083 and 1087, contemporary to the PAXS pennies struck in England. 

VF+, some striking weakness, toned, irregular flan. Very rare.
