British hammered, Charles I, silver crown, Exeter mint, under Sir Richard Vyvyan, c. September 1643, barrel garniture on the reverse shield (12 scrolls). 29.77 g.

This coin probably represents the first issue of Exeter, after the mint was relocated from Truro.

about VF, weakly struck as typical, a few marks on the reverse, old collection tone. Very rare.

Spink 3056; North 2553; dies as Brooker 1010

Sold with an old ticket noting that in the Parsons' sale of 1929 an example was described as "the finest of the three known specimens".

I would estimate the number of examples known today to be closer to 20.
