British hammered, Charles I, brass medal 1643, by Thomas Rawlins, Peace or War

This medal was struck after Prince Rupert's capture of Bristol as a gesture of defiance; Charles was ready either to negotiate with the Parliamentarians, or if no reasonable terms were suggested, to fight on. Although engraved principally by Rawlins, the portrait punch is believed to be by Nicholas Briot.
