Roman Provincial, Judaea, Neapolis (Nablus), Volusian, AE21, c. 251-3 AD, Mount Gerazim, temple. 21 mm, 6.82 g.

The coinage of Neapolis, now Nablus in the West Bank, shows the temple complex on Mount Gerazim. This was a pagan edifice from the time of Antoninus Pius, dedicated to Zeus, replacing earlier Samaritan structures. By the 4th century AD, a new temple complex had been rebuilt once again as a site for Samaritan worship.

VF, rough surfaces, earthen patina. Rare.
