Greek, Sicily, Syracuse, silver tetradrachm, c. 410-405 BC, unsigned dies by Eukleidas. The nymph Arethusa facing right, underwater, her hair tied and bobbing up, three dolphins around/Fast quadriga, driver being crowned by Nike flying above. 17.1 g.
Eukleidas (fl. c. 415-390 BC) was one of the greatest die engravers of the ancient Greek world. Among his works were the first coins to show a bust three-quarters facing, a radical departure from previous styles.
VF+, old collection tone, from a worn obverse die. Very rare.
