Greek, Celtic, Eastern Europe, imitation of Thasos AR tetradrachm 2nd to 1st century BC, stylized head of Dionysos right, wearing ivy wreath and taenia/ stylized Heracles standing facing, holding club. 34 mm 16.59 g.

The Celts of the Danube used many Greek coins in commerce, particularly issues of Philip II and Alexander III of Macedon, and the tetradrachm of Thasos. They also coined silver in imitation of these issues, from stylized and often illiterate dies.

EF, toned, minor planchet flaws. Extremely rare and interesting.

Apparently unpublished, cf. Lukanc Group VII for similar coins.
