Byzantine, Anastasius, gold tremissis, Constantinople, c. 492-507 AD. 15 mm, 1.48 g.

This coin is of somewhat unusual style for the Constantinople mint, with blundered reverse legend (note the unbarred As). However, it appears to be an official Byzantine issue rather than a contemporary imitation of e.g. the Ostrogoths, as previously thought.

VF+, graffiti in obverse field, slightly crimped as often seen. Scarce with an old provenance.
