British tokens, Charles II, Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, Upper Gallery ticket 1671. Copper, 25 mm.
The Theatre Royal, opened in 1663, was where Charles II's notorious mistress, the actress Nell Gwyn, first a orange-seller, first performed; it was also patronised by Samuel Pepys. This ticket was an annual pass; in 1672 the theatre burned down and was not rebuilt until 1674.
VF+, excellent surfaces. Very rare.
