British hammered, Scotland, David II, silver groat, third coinage, Edinburgh c. 1367-71, class 2a, mm cross pattee, tressure of six arcs, trefoils in spandrels, double crosslet stops, cross over wedge after DNS, plain As both sides, ILBATOR in error for LIBATOR on the reverse. 3.66 g. 


The reverse legend should read DNS PRTECTOR MS & LIBATOR MS i.e. the the Lord is my protector and saviour. The diesinker for this coin obviously forgot to punch in the L and instead started with the I...and inexplicably then decided to squeeze the L back in ! 

VF+, old toning, slightly irregular flan. Very rare variety
